Food Trucks!!! Off the Grid: Fort Mason Center
Hey Everyone!
So I went to the Off the Grid: For Mason Center food truck congregation and it was amazeballs! I ate my face off and I am totally okay with it. Seriously though, there were about 30 vendors and I got something from 8 of them… That’s a lot of food! Below is a list of vendors and a short description of each item that I ordered, starting with my favorite:
1. Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burger
Item: Classic Pork Belly Burger
This was my favorite item I ate from the whole evening. The combination of pork belly, fried pepper aioli, tomatillo pickles, and cotija cheese was perfection. The bun was light and the pork belly patty packed intense flavor. Genius!
2. Cholita Linda
Items: Tacos de Pescado (Tilapia), Tacos de Carnitas (Pork)
This was one of the more flavorful and yummy items that I had. The tilapia was fried well and their special sauce had a lot of flavor! It was a good combination of heat and fresh ingredients. Delicious!
3. Fat Face
Item: Strawberry Coconut Popsicle
This popsicle was really refreshing and yummy! It wasn’t too sweet and was made out of fresh strawberries. It sort of tasted like a strawberry colada and I love strawberry coladas!
4. The Crème Brulee Cart
Item: Nutella and Strawberry Crème Brulee
I have to say that I LOVE Nutella, so when I saw this combination, I didn’t even need to look at the rest of the menu! The custard part of the crème brulee tasted more like chocolate with chunks of strawberry in it, but nonetheless, it still hoovered the entire thing in 5 seconds.
5. Wing Wings
Item: Dry Rub Wings
The wings were freshly fried and fried well, however, I think next time I am going to go for wings that have more of a sauce, than just a dry rub.
6. 3-Sum Eats
Items: Korean Philly Cheesesteak, Mac N’ Cheese Spring Rolls
The fried Mac N’ Cheese Springs Rolls with the Gruyere Fondue sauce was, well, exactly like how you would imagine a Fried Mac N’ Cheese Spring Roll with extra cheese sauce… Decadent and satisfying! The Korean Philly cheesesteak was a good sandwich, however I wouldn’t actually call it Philly Cheesesteak (those who have had a Pat’s or Gino’s cheesesteak in Philly know what I’m talking about).
7. Happy Dumplings
Items: Chive, Egg, and Shrimp, Pork and Cabbage
Each potsticker had a nice crispy brown side and fresh tasting ingredients.
8. Curry Up Now: Indian Street Food
Items: Beef Kathi Rolls, Chicken Tikka Masala Burrito
Both of the items had a lot of different flavors and spices, making for a pretty intense bite packed with some heat. I really liked the cinnamon in the Tikka Masala burrito.
By the time I was finished eating everything that I had bought, I was beginning to feel my body slip into a food coma. So my posse had to carry me back to the car like a kid who
had a little too much fun at Chuckie Cheese so I could go home and safely fall into that food coma.
I highly recommend going to one of these food truck congregations if you have any near you. The vibe is really cool and you get a lot of variety! Some food truck vendors are good, some are not so good, and some are just plain delicious, but that’s what so fun about trying new foods!
Me want food,
Ronnie
